Laura dreams the dream of living like a craft-star pop diva. Striving to become an artisan whose art is the "day job." Knowing that in an alternate dimension this is the case, she does the behind the scenes work in this reality to create the cool items, that score her diva status over there, in that alternative place.

I love this ring on sew many levels.....
Perri Jackson is an amazing wire artist. She makes some of the most amazing wire wrapped rings. But this one....
This one I LOVE!
Let me tell you a little story that might explain why:
Once upon a time a crazy girl went to the movies and there was a poster for an upcoming movie. A revisit of a classic by a wacky film maker. Some nice gentleman in the line to see the next movie offered to take a picture of the crazy girl and her friend. And thats how it all started.

See? The Mad Hatter wears a pin cushion ring!!!
But his ring is not nearly as awesome as the ring by Perri!
Heres a link to her Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/shaktipajdesigns
and a link to her blog http://shaktipajdesigns.com/blog/
And because I love this ring so much, I need to wrap up this post with another picture of it

Here is the picture, as you can see there I am, and there behind me is the Mad Hatter hat. And look its a mini, and notice how my hair matches his hair?
Well thats where the idea came from: I need a girly mad hatter costume! Can you see it? a mini hatter hat, a corset instead of a vest, a plaid tutu instead of the kilt at the end? Of course Im built a little more like the Tweedles (Dee and Dum) so Im going really sssslllooooooowwww on the construction of this costume.
Step one: theHat
here I am in my finished mini version of my polymer clay hat--its heavy but it works
Now back to the ring.....

Made with awesome sauce
This ring by Malodora is made of pure awesome.
It is this week's RAW entry for Malodora. Previous rings have been pretty amazing.
Actually a lot of Malodora's stuff is--amazing and made with awesome sauce.
I'm her newest biggest fan!
http://www.etsy.com/shop/Malodora
Heck, I want to purchase all the stuff in her shop!
If you are feeling like you must surprise me with a gift this one:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/55756067/bird-skull-brooch-metal-polymer
You need to check it out. Its organic, and a bit twisted.
But twisted in a most fabulous way.
She is the kind of artist I want to be like:
crazy cool, and just a bit different.
I can't decide if Im inspired or intimidated.
Probably a bit of both!

Wednesday inspirational trip

I am working on a project, that I would like to have a Persian floral look to it.
I am too lazy to dig up a book I know I have under that pile under there, and so I look up Persian floral design on the almighty Google search.
I discovered this lovely artist's work:
Heidi Tarver
She works in metal clay (the look is distinct to those of us who work in it), and her work is just lovely. Everything about it is appealing. The stylistic theme she uses, the shapes and colors of the stone.
She even has a nicely designed web site.
I *thought* I would post an image of a Persian floral design from a manuscript or from henna art, but I am sharing this lovely necklace because it makes me want to get my PMC out, and begin making wonderful things!

Treasuries!
Etsy has this thing called Tresuries, it allows any Etsy user to create a curated selection of items. I have never been able to snag one. Even when they created Treasury West, which was supposed to just be an extra Treasuries collection. Well now the have Treasury East and ive managed to create 3--I dont think they are as limited server space wise.
So I created 3:
one of Blue Goddess nifty things

one specifically for the PCAGOE street team, its all polymer canes

And last one PIRATES!

If you have a chance visit them before they expire--I have no idea when that is

I fell in love with sea horses last year. We did a day trip to the Chattanooga aquarium, they had an exhibit of sea horses and sea dragons.
I was amazed. they are so beautiful!
I spent at least the next month drawing them. Im actually surprised I didnt make hundreds of little polymer ones.
I even found a wire artists who makes some wonderful little ones.

Seahorse by pippijewelry.etsy.com
I also learned from her site, that they a caught live and left under heat lamps to dry out. to be put in all those curio things. That makes me sad. i think I may have some from a craft store. i got them when i thought they were nifty, but i didnt et any after last years adventure. Im glad, because that treatment makes me sad. Anyway these can be quite tiny up to quite large.
I could watch them all day. Their variation in colors was glorious.
I am taking a polymer clay clay with christi Friesen. its on-line (I love on line learning but thats another story). The class is steam punk gryphons. I have been wondering how to incorporate steam punk into polymer for a bit now. Well as soon as the class got started I started seeing how to incorporate steam punk in other things. I made a great dragon fly--at least I like him, and this sea horse. Both figures are large, and not jewelry size. i will need to figure out what to do with them.
The next challenge will be to make a sea horse small enough to wear, and a steam punk octopus!

Bronze Pig, the art of Jill Johansen

I stumbled upon this image.. I think it is so beautiful, and what an amazing idea a Koi Mermaid.
She was done by Jill Johansen, a Canadian artist.
Her website is Bronze Pig, and you can purchase her designs on items at Cafe Press at http://www.cafepress.com/bronzepig/
I dont know Jill from Adam, as the saying goes, but I find her variety and subject matter interesting. Interesting, as in , Yes I like, not "oh thats interesting" I just dont know how to say thats not to my tastes. And I really like the variety of her artistic stylizations.
Thumbs up to Jill, she does truely beautiful work.
Now I just have to get my cafe cash account straightened up, and Im gonna buy something!

I like this idea!

this is a component clay cane.
As in its ment to be used as part of some thing, its an enhancement instead of the star.
Most canes I see for sale are the star.
Whenever I think about selling canes they are stars. --I dont mean a literal star I mean the focal piece.
Good idea!
