Im very excited, my metal clay and wire wrapped Medusa is featured in Fire Mountain Gems and Beads ad that is on the inside back cover of the current (september/October 2013) issue of Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist magazine!
This piece was a finalist in the 2012 metal clay competition.
I used Bronzclay the make a face with snake hair, and snake heads. I the. Used bronze jewelry wire to wrap the snake heads and a rattle tail, and make a framework of swirls. I used iridescent purple beads as accents along the edges.
Using the same wire I made a viking knit chain. The clasp is made of Bronzclay and is two intertwined snakes. The caps are brass tubes, that I forged and drilled holes in. The chain is epoxied into the end caps.
Laura dreams the dream of living like a craft-star pop diva. Striving to become an artisan whose art is the "day job." Knowing that in an alternate dimension this is the case, she does the behind the scenes work in this reality to create the cool items, that score her diva status over there, in that alternative place.

Bronze spiral ring of the week
I joined ring a week for several reasons.
Read my previous posts here, and here.
But as I slam together rings just to meet my weekly deadlines I sort of wonder: am I meeting my original artistic expectations?
I don't think I am. ( I am playing with the "big kids," I am being inspired, I am not improving my skill set)
I think I am producing more bleck. I need to fix this. I need to focus. I need to realize Im not going to produce a work of art if Im struggling to keep up, or spend 20 minutes slapping something together.
I started this year with sketches and ideas. I need to go back to those ideas. I need to have some more challenging designs and know that I will take a month to complete some designs. And that means I need some more simplified ideas to fill in the gaps.
I am almost caught back up, and this spiral ring was my easy quick ring for this week, while I continue to work on the fish ring. Fish ring= big fancy skill reminder.
I think Im going to go for one big time consuming ring to be proud of a month, and throw in some fast little intermediate design.

School days school days la la la la la
Ack!
Summer is "over." We go to school on Friday.
Im temped to feel sad, of all the things we didn't really do, but it was so incredibly hot this year we would not have been able to do things anyway.
This is great, the kids wont be bored and I will have some serious crafting time!!
I think the first project has to be to clean up some. Currently my work area is a dumping ground, and Im working around the mess.
I really need my work surface back, sepecially since I want to do some BronzeClay, and I wont even purchase it until I have a work surface!
